January 30, 2010 – Jim Storment was able to score his first checker of the ASRL SS 2010 season on Saturday night as the series made a stop at The Toddring superspeedway. Brandon Searcy started from the pole for the third time this season, but was passed by Dak in the first lap. Dak lead the opening 20 laps, while staying on the track during a caution on lap 5, before being overtaken by Jim who had started near the back of the field. Jim was holding a comfortable lead after green flag pitting near the halfway point in the race, when a second caution bunched the field on lap 32. Dak was able restart in the lead on lap 37, but Jim and DAK had contact while dicing for the lead a lap later to bring out another caution. Jim was back at the front for the restart on lap 42. Rob Scott was able to get by on the start to lead the next lap, but Jim was able to power by on the outside to retake the lead a lap later and raced unchallenged to the checker. A final caution, for a blown engine, with two laps to go, did cause the race to conclude with Jim following the pace car over the line, but it was a good race overall. Following Jim at the finish were Rob Scott, Roger Hand, DAK, and rick Turcic.
Race Stats
Next Saturday night, the series will be the running at the OSR. This track is a large egg shaped oval similar too, but much larger than Darlington. The track has variable banking that allows multi groove racing. Speeds were close to 250 mph when we raced there last season. There will be an open practice as usual on Saturday afternoon from 1 to 3 with normal series practice and race starting at 8:30 after the survivor race. |
